Some Irrigated Crops near Rushworth. [Newspaper Article] — Nagambie Times — 23 October 1914

Some Irrigated Crops near Rushworth. (BY AN OCCASIONAL COKllKSrOSIinST.) In lliis season of dried crop.-! and pastures it does one good to take a trip through the irrigated areas and see the effect of the water 011 the crops and fodder. No one who i entered Rtishworlli from the south- I ern side, with its barren and parched surroundings, and did not know;the district, would think it possible that within a mile or two were crops lliat would gladden the eye in any season, let alone this one of disaster and failure, the good results being solely brought about through the agency of the water from the War auga Basin, supplied by the De partment. Leaving Rushworth and travell ing north-west along the Stanhope road about two miles out we strike the pumping station from which Rushworth is supplied with beau tiful water reticulated from a large cemented tank on a bill adjoining the town. To have a supply of such water to our mind makes Rush worth one of the most fortunate I •towns in the Sta...

Recruits Needed Now. [Newspaper Article] — Nagambie Times — 30 October 1914

Recruits Needed Now. "Asquitli wants men," was tho rallyingci-v passed round Australia is well as I lie United Kingdom recently. 'L'lie Imperial Prime Minister says the Umpire needs nil the men it has, nnd lie lias undertaken to train and maintain every accepted volunteer. That is, he is prepared for an even larger army than that immedinteh wanted hy Lord Kitchener. The Commonwealth caunot fail to do likewise, livery district and com inuuity liere must bo combed for volunteers, and the largest possible army, whatever its sizo and ex pense may be, must bo produced by this country. No one, of course, expects the military author ities to accept more recruits than they can equip, train and effec tively deal with. But it should not be beyoud their capacity to begin at once with another large contingent. Wo have np to date promised 35)000 men. Why stop at that?
