(TO TIIF. EDITOR fORittweLtt. ADVERTISSER.) Silt.-I am surprised to see that no pub lic notice has been taken of the conduct of a well-known resident of Yinnar. On Thurslday, tlt of December, this individual whol I will not lesignate a llan, used foul lauguage in the presence of children on tho Yinnar platform. Surely the police will take this matter up, for it is not to be tolerated, that anty low blackguard lmay ho permitted to indulige in gross language un fit for the era of adults, let alone the children who were forced to listen to it. Trusting ttat efforto will be put forth to put down this intolerable use,, of foul lan guage, at least in public placea . I am t&c. ONE WItOl WAS TI'IESENT. 31orwell, 7th December 1887.

Late but Important. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser and Weekly Chronicle — 10 December 1887

Late but Important. It must be extremely alnnoying to cntractors to lose time and money in ,endering for contracts. that it not the' iutention of the council to let, For the mecond time tenders have nit been ac cipted by the Narraran Shire Coun il for road at Bishe's, biecause the aluount exceeded that allowed to bie spent. Surely an estimate of tie work could b,. .iren by the Engineer. The coun cil wolld thuen know before calling for tenders, and causitg contractors great anntoyance if the cost were likely to be allowied. At tile Special M~eeting of the Narra cah Shire Council yesterday, some arri lonious discussion ensued upon the En gineor's report on the roads. His action was stigmatized as an unwarranttable in. terference with the business of the council. It appears to n.us that it was quite competent for the Engineer, as an fficer of the Council, to report on the practicability of proposed roads. It is quite another tihing whether the council ladpt the report or not, but in ou...

The Morwell 'Advertiser.' VOX POPULI. (PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY). SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1887. THE LICENSING BILL. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser and Weekly Chronicle — 10 December 1887

VOX POP ULI. (PUBIIrI.IE1) EVERY SATURDIAY). SATURDAY. DECEIMBIE1 10, 1887. THE LICENSING BILL. AT last the Amending Licensing Bill has passed the second reading, and it may now lie considered to become a law of the land. During this session the bill has occupied a large share of atten tion, and it has been productive ,of much acrimonious debate. The Licen sed Victuallers have been constantly agitating for a long time past to ob tain aanamendlment of the Act, which was found not to work well in actual practice. To enable this to be made workable, it became necessary to have it amended in order to make it fulfil itls intended purpose. The country con sidered, that the local option qruostion had been settled, at least until the con stituenclis had tne opportunity of ex pressiug their opinion at a general elec tion. The deficiencies of the Act, how ever, were so apparent, as to render it expedient to have the Act made work able. The exponents of the views of the Licensed Victuallers, a...
