HOLLYWOOD Reports [Newspaper Article] — Western Star — 18 March 1949

A line about what cars cost back in the good old days of 1924 has been cut out of "You're My Everything." Anne B;ixter was supposed to say to Dan Dailcy, in a highly dramatic .scene: "But that new roadster will coHt us 540 dollars." Director Walter Lang figured that the dialogue would get a laugh—at a point where no laugh was wanted. "It's too brutal anyway," lie said, "to remind people of how cheap cars once were." * * * Betty Grable, who portrays the trigger-happy heroine of 2lth Century-Fox's "The Beautiful Blonde froim Bashful Bend" is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone, one of the most noted marksman of his day. Elsa Manchester's penchant for picturesque old houses has proved a costly indulgence. Purely because of its quaint appeal, Miss Lanchester now featured In 20th Century-Fox's •iComo to the Stable," recently pur chased an old home in Hollywood Hills. Her fiscal report to date: Cost of house 23,000 dollas; cost of mak ing house, inhabitable 23,000 dollars. 20th Century-Fo...

The Story of Life \ t " " * > T" *•>'» 4m PART x THE ANCESTORS OF THE FROGS LAID THE PLAN FOR BACK-BONED ANIMALS... At we said In the last advertisement, one of the early stages of life u represented by the Amphibia and that this daw of . animals include frogs, and even our own famed Platypus. When a frog is very young — that is at one of the early stages of its life — it is called a tadpole which lives in water. If it never went any farther we should probably call it a fish. After { a time, the tadpole begins to make great changes in itself: there begin to be hints of limbs and, what is even more important, of lungs. Finally, the tadpole grows into a frog, which has arms and legs, or fore lim1>s and hind limbs. But this is not die only development, for the frog has hands, as we have, each having four fingers and a thumb, while h has five toes on cacfa of its feet. T...

For Women Only [Newspaper Article] — Western Star — 18 March 1949

for Women Only IJURNS and scalds are serious and dangerous to life in pro portipn to the extent and depth of the injury. A burn covering a large urea, though quite superficial, is as serious, or more so, than a much deeper burn in which a smaller skin area lias been involved. Such burns as these are not cases for household remedy, but everyone should know what to do before the doctor comes. Kirst of all, make no attempt to remove clothing from the burned area. If this area is exposed, simply cover it with a clean sheet or towel and leave it strictly alone. Keep the patient warm, though not hot, with blankets, and, U necessary, hot water bottles. Remember that the victim of a bad burn is suffering: from shock, so move the sufferer very gently if you have to move him at all. A warm drink will help, but under no circumstanpeu give alcohol. FIRST-AID MEASURES When a burn is less extensive, or when medical aid is not readily avail I able the following "first aid" mea sures may be taken: ...
