TO TIHE ED:OY OF? TE ADVERTISER.' Sir,-Will you kindly allow me spsce to - reply to " D.. This is a gross perversion of theo truth and absolutely, contemptible. Social Notes. [Newspaper Article] — Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser and Diamond Creek Valley Advocate — 22 March 1918

Social Notes. BY THELMA. We regret to record the death of Private J. G. Gosstray, a member of the well-known Diamond Creek family. He has been officially reported killed in action. We extend our sincerest sympathy to his bereaved family. He has given his life for his King and Country. Another old district resident has passed away in the person of Mr. Archer, of Diamond Creek, where he had resided for the past 60 years. He leaves a widow and family to mourn their loss and to these we offer our sincere sympathy. There was a crowded attendance at the Church of England, Eltham, on Saturday afternoon last when Arch- deacon Hayman unveiled the Honour Board and Rev. E. Pelham Chase, B.A., blessed the windows presented in memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wippell, of Eltham. The Yarra Glen Show was held last Wednesdeay in beautiful weather, and President Hall, Secretary Morris and the Committee are to be con- gratulated on the great success of the gathering. The picnic and sports arranged at ...

TO THE EDITOR OF THE ADVERTISER. [Newspaper Article] — Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser and Diamond Creek Valley Advocate — 22 March 1918

TO THE EDITOR OF THE ADVERTISER. Dear Sir,— If "Thelma " falls into error over the disabilities and troubles of orchardists, he or she should be corrected and brought acquainted with some of the reasons for their shortcomings as well as other writers. It is always from our own view point we argue and talk as if the other fellow was always wrong and ourselves quite in order and right every time, with statements we chose to make th that fits in   with prevailing sentiment. The waste that is just beginning to appear through the apples leaving the trees on their own, without the picker's intervention, is a fault of the fruitgrowers perhaps, or perhaps not. I myself was offered a job picking, but declined ; therefore I suppose I am   partly to blame for allowing so many apples   to fall on the ground, eventually to be sliced or pulped instead of being cool stored, thereby destroying the chance later of a good or cheap price, as the case may be. The ...

THE DIAMOND VALLEY FRUITGROWERS' CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION LIMITED. [Newspaper Article] — Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser and Diamond Creek Valley Advocate — 22 March 1918

THE DIAMOND VALLEY FRUITGROWERS' CO-OPERA- TIVE ASSOCIATION LIMITED.   The Association is definitely com- mencing its operations on Monday, March 25th, for the time being carrying on its business in Mr A. W. Cooke's barn, near Cottle's Bridge, but pre- sently in its own well-equipped and up-to-date packing house, the building of which is to be proceeded with almost immediately. The site chosen is conveniently situated, fronting Cottle's Gully road, a short distance front the main Queenstown road. The packing house is to be a substantial structure, measuring 60ft. by 40ft., the plans for which have been prepared by the well known firm of Klingender and Alsop, the designers of the Narre- warren and Beaconsfield packing sheds. Mr J. T. Street has been appointed Manager and Secretary, and his energy and other qualifications should do much towards ensuring a successfull com- mencement being made in this much- needed co-operative scheme. In this issue there should appear a no...
