Lake Lonsdale [Newspaper Article] — Stawell News and Pleasant Creek Chronicle — 10 March 1914

I Lake Lousdalo (From oar own Correspondent). After our recent fires the cool change, accompanied by an iuch of raiu, was ii welcome oue, and did much to freshen the landscape, while Ihe downpour was enough to fill all dams in ibis locality. In somf> placea it is computed that 2 inches fell in a few honra, but tho rain gauge at the l.ike registered 95 points. Once agaiu Mercury has crawled up his luidcr and 10-day is in the region of three figures, and our old summer visitor, smoke, is doing its best to obscure the Grampians. An old resident of this district in the person of .Mrs Stoad is anticipat ing severing her connection, and with that end in view has placet' her farm on the market. This property is well-Unown as it has been tho Lake Lonsdale post office for many year?. I wonder where our next post office will be, as it is probable that this farm will fall into ihe hands of surrounding landowners. An atteur-t was made recently to procure a pgiil ig booth here for the Stale e...

STAWELL TECHNICAL SCHOOL. A Criticism. [Newspaper Article] — Stawell News and Pleasant Creek Chronicle — 10 March 1914

STAWELL TECHNICAL SCHOOL. A Criticism. The following letter to the Editor appeared in yesterday's issue of the "Argus" : Sir,—In reference to Mr Tate's proposed visit to inquire into the wasto of the public funds on the technical school, I fear that it is useless to protest against the con tinuance thereof if left to the dis cretion of Mr Tate. Sonn eight years ago. Mr Ta'e promised to "nail up the doors." Had he done so, fully £"12,000 of public monpy would have been saved from the gutter. In the interval; all sorts of departmental notions hare been given repeated and costly trials, and every one of them lias been a repeated failure also. When Mr Taio again visits the "patient," it is to be hopt»d that he will not prescribe a continuance of the the same medicine, regardless of expense. Would Mr Tate, or anyone els^, pay £1.500 per annum for teaching some JO odd little girls to draw, &c., and for aimis»ment for a lot of small boys, if ho wore run ning a private school of his...
