SLIGHT R_^yiONSHIP _BETWEEN GRADES AMD STUDY _TtPlflE Ch i cago , I11. -(I.F.)- There is, apparently, only a slight relationship between the amount of ti m e that students s p end in study and the grades they receive, according t o an analy si s.by the first Survey of the Use of Student Time by the II- linois Institute of Tech- nology. This initial survey used: students divided according to theirj ability (high, average, and low) measured by the en- trance A.C.E. test, a median of 17 credits a semester, and quanitative ability as well as lin- guistic ability. The survey indicated that though a student has high ability, and spends a great deal of time on his studies this is no guarantee of high grades. Some of the other factors involved were shown to be l) varying ability to make effective use o f t i me , 2) grades might not bear a close re- lationito the amount learned, 3) courses vary great.ly in difficulty even though they carry same credits, U) test used at I.
