(^*The London American announces that Col. C. C. Quick, an American, now in that city, has just purchased a live hippopotamus from the Zoological Garden, for exhibition in the United States. The price paid for this wonderful animal is near twenty thousand dollars. It was caught in Egypt two years ago when but a few days old, and its already massive proportions indicate the enormous power which will be developed in its _matured _grojsaifi_*'' -_/ /_6^* Garden Eden might have peen located, in Kansas. The Bible plainly says that the rivers of Paradise arose from one scource, and flowing out of the garden, divided into four great rivers, running in different directions.— Nowhere but in the south part of Kansas is such a thins: known on earth.

Q_^Jhe Lancaster _Evening _impress pays : "We understand that, the Pennsylvania Railroad Company are contemplating the erection of a new Passenger Depot, at the _tfenninus ef their road, at West Philadelphia. It will be built on the vacant lot on the north side of the track near the Scbuylkill, and will be live hundred feet long, and no doubt one of the handsomest and most commodious depots in the country. When that is completed the passengers will be carried into the city on the passenger city railway, which will be more pleasant and expeditious than under the present arrangement of running the heavy cars down to 11th and Market.

_I_^T-A- young woman named Lizzie Donaldson, essayed to walk across one of the streets of Cincinnati on a wire, last week, and had nearly accomplished the feat, when the holder of one of the guy ropes, in his admiration for the spangled petticoat above him, looked upwnrd, forgot his business, and threw Line fair performer from her foothold, to _fehe terror and dismay of the witnesses. -JFortunately she had already passed the -middle of the street, where a fall might have been fatal, and dropped elegantly some ten feet, upon the one story store beneath.

gip-The citizens of Qarlisle, Pa., in one day last week subscribed .$1 ,036 re-build St. Patrick's Catholic church, lately destroyed by fire_. Death ok a Living dkeletox.— We learn from the Springfield (Ohio) Republican, that Roe, the great living skeleton, died daring the night of the Gth inst., at the Western Hotel, in that city. He had been on exhibition at a pavilion on the _fairgrounds all the previous week, and is supposed to have caught cold, which \* as very easy for so lean a person. His death was unobserved, occurring while his companions supposed him to be asleep, and as well as usual.
