\ \ Editor of Peacock Signal Replies to Court House Opposition—Nails An- other Falsehood to the Cross—Let the Voters of Stonewall County Read His Letter in Full—It's a Scortcher. Peacock, Texas, April 3, 1911 Editor Aspermont Star, Aspermont, Texas Dear Sir: We ara anxious to set the people right in regard to certain reports that are being circulated and to that end we are forwarding you an open letter to the public and ask that you give same publication. In case that you can we would appreciate it very much if you would do us the favor to publish same without charge, but rather than have the voters misled at our expeese we would pay straight advertising rates rather than not have same appear. COME NOW J. A. CARROLL, Aspermont, Texas ■at The man with the cow is be- coming: almost as popular in Texas as the man with the hoe, and the demand for pure milk and dairy products of all kinds is growing larger every day. The United States Department of Agriculture estimates that 2,000 pounds of butter, which is worth $500, takes less than fifty cents worth of plant food from the ground, and that the industry is one of the most profitable in which the Southern farmer can engage. The opportunities for dairying in Texas are almost un- limited, and with the excellent ranges and plenty of domestic grasses there is no reason why the Texas dairyman should not prosper, without being subject to the proverbial charge of "watering his stock." A number of Commercial Clubs are offering prizes for the be...

V / The Conference for Education in Texas is a public-spirited organization of laymen and teach- ers, which devotes its entire time to the promotion of the cause of good schools. Its sole purpose is to assist all forms of rational education in the State and to render substantial service to the schools of Texas. The Confer- ence recognizes the fundamental fact that, in democratic govern- ments, permanent reforms qaust come through an aroused public sentiment friendly to educational progress; it believes that, since all classes of people are directly benefited by the maintenance of a State school system, all citizens should unite in a common effort for school betterment; and it seeks to accomplish constructive results in education by the gen- eral diffusion of knowledge of educational conditions and nefeds. It is non-partisan and non-politi- cal; no single educational interest cont^pls its official board, the personnel of which, composen of layme...

Vol. 13. -—V Build Good Roads In Stonewall County—It Will Pay to do i m It 'r. = .■ WERE RAISED IN STONEWALL S. J. King, of Swenson, Sell ¥. J. Dalby Two Hogs for $51.15—Weight 787 Pounds—Less Than Twelve Months old. Stonewall county is not only a peach for beautiful women and handsome men; she is not only ahead of the hounds when it comes to King Cotton, milo maize and goober peas, but she knocks the top premium on hog raising. S. J. King, of Swenson, brought to the Aspermont market last Saturday a couple of shoats, less than a year old, that tipped the beam at 787 pounds, bringing the owner $51.15. We haye always said that West Texas was the best hog country o¿ earth, and we are going to stick to it. We want to say another thing, and that is, if hogs will stay at the present price, 8 and 10 cents, on foot, we can go out and buy an average priced farm in Stonewall co...

It is variously asserted that the time required for the growth of a body feather on a healthy fowl is ap- proximately 42 days, while the time needed to develop the tail is some- what longer. This refers to plucked feathers. The usual molting period of a hen cannot, however, be accurately calculated from this estimate. In the experiment under consideration the average time of complete molting in the six flocks, containing at the end of the molting season, 215 hens, was 95 days. The average time requir...
