Jno.n joddsoq mm, lens *5 Obituary. One of the saddest deaths that has been in Deaf Smith county was that of Claude Moreman at the Moreman ranch on Friday, June 21. Wed- nesday morning about 9 o'clock he and his brother, Leslie, were going to take some yearlings from the house pasture to the far pasture. Leslie was on his horse in front of the yard gate and Claude came out of the house with a Winchester in his right hand and a 45 pistol and some cartridges in his left hand. When he got to the gate the pistol fired and put a ball through his brain, en- tering just above the right eye and coming out three inches above and fracturing the skull in every direc- tion. He was never conscious though h...

Some weeks ago, the Brand was compelled to admitt that Canyon City was leading Hereford in the construction of concrete walks. To make this admission was a very heavy crush to our pride as it has been seldom indeed that Hereford has allowed her sister towns lead her in any of the usual enterprises. We say we were compelled to make the admission at the time, but there has been a great change wrought out since then. Our people have awak- ed from their seeming slumbering and consequently have advanced to that stage in cement sidewalk build- ing that none of them can lead us. Besides the numerous business and residence blocks thus beautified, many other contracts have been...
