The Brand 12 SportS April 13 1995 Cowboys Chip Away at HPU's Lead by Trenten Hilburn Hardin-Simmons University got back into the race for the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic As- sociation title last Saturday as the Cowboys took both games of a doubleheader from nemesis Howard Payne University 9-6 and 8-7. On Friday HSU dropped a nail-biter to the Jackets 11-10. Howard Payne (9-3 15-15) now holds a one-game edge over the Cowboys (8-4 21-9) in the TIAA. HSU has a slight advantage as the two teams head down the final stretch for the TIAA title. The Yellow Jackets still have to face third place opponent Sul Ross State University (7-5 16- 14) and the Cowboys are left with winless Austin College (0- 12 3-14) as their only remaining conference opponent. The Cowboys managed to take five of six from Sul Ross State this season but that one loss was in Alpine. The likeli- hood that HPU can leave Alpine without losing at least one game is fairly slim. Sul Ross has yet to be swept at home in a th...
