Thursday, February 16, 2006 - THE SACHSE NEWS - Section A - Page 3 Despite wind, boys collect tons of food in yellow bags By Billi Gray For the three years that the Boy Scouts have conducted non-perish- able food drives in Wylie, Murphy and Sachse, the weather has tried to dampen their efforts. First came rain. Then came snow. This year, it was a mighty wind. But a group with the motto, "Be prepared," is not one to be easily routed. Consequently, the only thing that blew the scouts away last Saturday, Feb. 11, was the amount they col- lected. "It was around 12,600 items," Jeanine Stevens, co-chair with David Stevens for the Great Plains District, Circle 10, of the Boy Scouts of America, said. "I think it was a record," she added. Participating in the food drive, which benefitted the Wylie Christian Care Center, were the following 13 groups of local Boy Scouts: •Pack 301 from Dodd Elementary •Pack 302 from Akin Elementary •Pack 304 from Birmingham Elementary •Pack 418 from Groves and...
