The [?]opetoun Courier AND MALLEE PIONEER. PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY MORNING. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1914. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 13 November 1914

Zbe Ibopetoun Courier AND MALLEE PIONEER. PUBLISHED E7EKV FRIDAY MOHNINQ. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1914. AT the council meeting yesterday week disappointment was expressed by Cra. C. Msrshman, Raggatt, and others at tin poor competition for the various relief works advertised. Contractors wore the principal tenderers, whereas the loan of £5000 was floatod with a view of providing work for farmers and their horses daring the summer months. Many jobs, especially up north, where it is considered the settlers are in most need of help, were not tendered for at all, whilst for a number • tenders wera {al together too high. There is never a council meeting but what there are requests from farmers along the railway north of Lascelles to have roads either scoopod or grabbed, so now that thero is a good chance of having all necessary works carried out, those living in the vicinity are certainly standing iu their own light by neglecting to see that the works are tendered for. The loan of £5000 was...

MAKE fOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Hopetoun Courier and Mallee Pioneer — 20 November 1914

MAKE fOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. Concerning some parts of the dis trict news comes but seldom. This is not entirely our fault; wo have no miraculous power of knowing what is happening at all the places within our area of circulation. It is the fault of residents in the silent places. Will some man or woman take the matter in hand and causo'the sileuce to cease. If no one is doing it for your district, will you try on these lines? Send accounts of public and social events in your township and neigh borhood, such as weddings, deaths, accidents, concerts, matters touching district industries, etc. . Write the names of persons very distinctly. Don't bother about grammar or spelling ; it's the editor's work to look atter those trifles. The barest skeleton is enough. Write only on one side of the paper. Give information; but let criticism alone. Write your name and address on same corner—not for publication, but to prove good fuith.
