Mining. LAUT'S NEW FIND. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 14 December 1900

EiHning. L.VUT'S NEW FIND. Some two months ago this party ap plied to the Department of Mines for assistance from the prospecting vote to enable them tr. ripen up and prospect thoroughly their claim, but were refused nid ou the grounds that they were work ing a payaiue ill me. up xo ttiat lime oven; there had been nothing put forth to justify such a refusal, and since then ?their claims to assistance have boon -strengthened 'considerably. Tho fact 'that in August last a crushing of 2G tons was taken out which returned 28oz evidently influenced the officials when considering tho application, but when tlie quantity of work done and the nnmber of men amongst whom this 28oz had to be split up is taken into consideration, no one can imagine the refusal of aid justifiable. The work done since the refusal consists ?of 55ft sinking, 45ft driving, 45ft stoping, The work so far has been carried on at a great disadvantage by these enterpris ing men, who, whilst thoy thought they had a chance o...

The Shops. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 21 December 1900

Tho Shops. Sir. T. J. Finn, — This gentleman who established his business iu 1874 is just as progressive now as in earlier years when there was greater cause for advancement. The business has grown under his management from 4iie then small dimen sions of an ordinary country store to that of an establishment at which can be procured any and everything necessary to make lite comiortable. Jus motto has always been and will always remain, ' Good value at lowest possible prices.' no biiys for cash almost anything the farmer can produce, or gives good value iu return in goods. Iu drapery his stock cannot be improved upon. Especially is this so in the case of gents light summer clothing, khald, etc., which he is selling at a remarkably low figure. In the ironmongery department he keeps his stock up-to-date and thoroughly trust worthy, paying good prices for his goods and being content with a small profit depending upon his turn-over to retnrn interest on his investment.
