BRITLSH EXTRACTS. The King of France, on ,ahe, 25th August, the day oí St. Louis, granted 345 free pardons, and commuted 145 sentences for milder punish ments. Among the former were included 121 persons condemned for political offences.         Private letters from Paris state, that the num-   ber of English, Irish, and Scots in France, ap- pears on the police books to amount to 62,000, every one of whom is registered as to name, residence, &c. and could be arrested in 24 hours.—The evacuation of the country by the army of occupation will be the signal for the return of a great proportion of this emigrant population. It ia estimated that their expen-   diture amounts to L.50,000 a day. HOBART TOWN. Sitting Magistrate - Rev. R. Knopwood, M. A SHIP NEWS. - Sailed on Sunday last for Port Jackson, the     brig Daphne, Captain Howard   with wheat and potatoes.     On Wednesday arrived from Bengal, the brig Dragon, Captain BRADY, with a large in- vestment of merchandize for Captain READ of   this place, and the remainder of her cargo for Sydney. On Thursday sailed for Port Jackson, His Majesty's colonial brig Prince Leopold, Captain CHASE; having on board several prisoners             under sentence of transportation to Newcastle;         and one for trial on charge of sheep-stealing. Remain in the harbour, the ship Marina; the brigs Dragon, Jupiter, and Sophia; and   the sloop Governor Sorell.

HOBART TOWN. Sitting Magistrate—Thomas Archer, Esq. SHIP NEWS.—On Thursday     evening a special Messenger to the Lieutenant Governor came in from Port Dalrymple, bring- in a small Post Office Packet, and various let- ters for this place, which had arrived on the 13th by the schooner Little Mary from Port Jackson, after a passage of seven days.—By this arrival we learn that the brig Governor Mac- quarie was on the point of sailing for this Port, and may be expected daily. The ship Surrey sailed from Port Jackson on the 25th or 26th of July. We learn that she was very full of passengers; amongst whom were   Mr. Allan, late Deputy Commissiary General, and family ; and Edw. Lord, Esq, of this place. The ships Hibernia and Baring were also about to sail together for India.
