I~?ixandra & T sa q tandaiud PUBLISHlED EVERY FRIDAY. NEC TIMICElt NEC TIMID.o FRIDAY. JULY 2, 1909. AT the very least the condition of the Federal political legislature is deplor able. *At 'the bidding of the Labor minority the nation's business is sus pended until the no-confidence motion has been disposed of. The no-confl. dence motion moved by Mr Fisher was absurd on tho face of it, and simply seems to prit him and his colleagues in a ridiculous position. The only reason that can be discovered for such obstructionist tactics on the part 'of the Opposition is one of defeated ambition. Receiving the very same treatment that they themselves meted out to the Deakin Government, they have resolved to 'do all in their power to obstruct and if possible, wreck, the new. fusion Government. It is a sad dening reflection 'upon the spirit of our politicians _whon they are unable to accept defeat: in a proper manner. It savors of childishness to break into such splenetic' abuse and. p...

JOIHNSOSN'S CREEK V. ThilORN?TON. . All tL?o.wk previous to the meeting of- the- above teams on the Thornton ground on Saturday last, the followers and admirers of the game of football were looking forward with interest to this match as both aides are fairly evenly matched. Tlioe fesult was that a largo crowd were present from all parts, and coaches and numberless vehicles went from Alexandra. It was a delightfully fine day, and pleasant to the spectators, although a trifle warm for the players. Both sides were strongly represented, although. the Creek were without the services of L. Thornton would have been level with the Crook in the phlaco of honor, and throughout the game they looked a win ning team and were leading by a small majority up to the last. The Creek then secured a goal, which placdl them in the lead. It was here thlit Thornton threw away the game by some of their men losing their heads and playing roughly.
