THE DEAN CASE. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 1 October 1895

THE DEAN CASE. Is the whole history of jarispradence it is liteljr that there was never a a case which assumed more startling anil importaai phases than the notorious Uean case. Dean was tried on a charge of attempted murder by the ordinary tribuuials of the British dominions. I le proceemags were regulated under the supervision of a judge, and the verdict as to whether or not he was guilty was given by twelve of his fellow-countrymen. This process of trial is one of the rights won for us by our ancestors, and has generally speaking been re garded, as one of the cjpst prerioos of oar possessions. As to the iocidents in the trial which -have been so fully and bo freqaently discussed we do not propose to say anything. Suffice it to say tbafc the public generally came to the conclusion that the the jury's finding that Dean was -guilty of the crime he was charged with was a wrone one, and that, instead he was an inn.Kent man. A Royal Com mission was appointed. For the time being, in fin...
