Sin:-You are of course awnrc of the annoyance created by the one mile boundary question for the Inst six months, and the reason why licenses have been granted since that time within the one mile boundary. But it -r . we have now come to the end. as the Crown bailiff has given miiicu peremptorily to quit at the ex piration of our present licences. It would seem die act which enables the powers that lie to thus dispose of us, is quite explicit, hut the absurdity of such a law i-> ton plain to need ex plaining to any resident on these gold field*. For instillce, laii'i is bought where there 'is no thought of n gold fluid existing. Some time afterwards a gold field does break out, the lead of v. hioh runs within a quarter of a mile of this purchased land, and of course here a person would wish to carry on business, but he is prohibited because within tile mile. To the Editor of tho Ovens and Murray \ Advertiser. ! .Sin:-I shall feel greatly obliged if you will kindly allow me to expose, through the columns of your widely circulated journal, the fallacy of trying cases in the County Court by assessors I had a case in court yesterday, an action for £100 !2s. against Mr Henry Johnson, junior, of the Woolshed, for commission on auic.-* &c., effected by me. I was to recVA .5 per cent, on publicans' orders, and, 'tj per cent, on small accounts, without res ponsibility, the commission only being paid on the mo.ney collected by ine. Mr ./ohns m demurred to the arrangement until I left him, and sued him tor my money ; then he asserted that I was responsible for the amount commis sioned at ten per cent.
