The main body were as far as Mier, on lhe routo to Monterey, wbilo il was _thought that General Worth, and his command were by lhal limo before the latter place. Nothing of importance had occurred. Rumors still reached the camp of a contradictory character as to the state of the defences of Monterey. The opinion, however, generally prevailed, that there would be some hard knocks exchanged before that p_\ace ' would bo surrendeied.
