PEDESTRIANISM The 10 Mile Bace , [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 26 November 1853

PEDESTRIANISM The 10 Mile Bace , JACKSON AND THE INDIAN . The following letters in relation to the late race , we copy from Bell s Life in London . M R . E DITOR : I , amongst many others , attended at Mr . Sadler s ground this day in full expectation of witnessing the race between Jackson ( the American Deer ) and the Tonawanda Indian ; after -waiting long past the time specified , the large concourse of people assembled were insulted with a mock raco commenced between Jackson and the—socalled—Indian . I say mock , for of all the rascally attempts at extorting money for tickets of admission from thc pockets of the public , this mook raee affair was the most disgraceful I ever witnessed . After running at a weak , schoolboy pace for about a mile , the misnamed Indian of the Tonawand a tribe ( quere , somo Lascar sweeper of a street crossing ) broke down , and disgusted witb the farce , and drenched with rain , I returned home . Now , Mr . Editor , I trust you will show up this abomi...
