K ^ eligion and "Business . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 5 February 1902

K ^ eligion and Business . OUDGE TITLE Y in a recent decision says : Religion and business do not mix well together . The one is in the service of God ; the other is generally considered the service of Mammon . As long as such views arc held and sanctioned by our judges we may expect people to treat their religion as a Sunday garment to be put away after use until needed at church again . Such religion is not religion at all . It is hypocrisy . Religion does not consist of cant phrases , long prayers or ceremonial observances , and anyone who attempts to mingle such stuff with business is sure to bring discredit upon both business and religion . But the idea that the principles of religion and of business are as oil and water , not to be mixed , is responsible for the vicious conception that a man may be a Br . Jekyll on Sunday and a Mr . Hyde on Monday . People who hold such ideas are more in need of enlightenment and missionary work than are the cannibals of the South sea islands ...

' BreaKjng More 'Records . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 5 February 1902

BreaKjng More Records . HOVER S of the famous black cattle are engaged in breaking records at Dexter Park . Yesterday C . IT . Gardner , of Blandinsville . 111 ., paid § 6 , 300 for M . A . Judy s noted female Blackcap Judy 4022 G , first prize calf at the International Exposition of 1900 , the only show at which she was ever exhibited . The previous top price for a female was § 2 , 800 paid for Lucy Estill , bred by Wallace Estill , of Estill . Mo ., at which price \ V . A . Mcllenry , of Denison , la ., secured her . This new record shows that the Aberdeen-Angus is not only a useful breed but popular . Recent Shorthorn and Hereford sales saw phenomenal prices , but the sale of Blackcap Judy is equally sensational . This line animal was bred by Mr Judy on his Indiana farm and shows that native product is equal if not superior to imported both in the show and sale rings . Another fact demonstrated by this sale is that there is an ever growing demand for breeding cattle of the beef b...

Chicago a ^ Record TlreaKer . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 5 February 1902

Chicago a ^ Record TlreaKer . HIIICAGOS ability to break records is undisputed . If there are any trophies on this score she does not already possess it is merely a question of arrival of the opportunity . At the Flatt sale all western Shorthorn records were demolished and new ones established at a high level . But three weeks ago a new Hereford standard of values was established at Dexter Park and hardly had the echo of the auctioneer s voice died away than the Aberdeen-Angus men enter the same arena and establish new records for that breed . Choice Goods , the Shorthorn bull sold by Flatt to Robbins presumably brought $ 7 , 000 ; Perfection , the Hereford champion male , brpught 810 , 000 , and yesterday Blackcap Judy , an Angus female , changed hands at $ 0 , 800 . Possibly the black cattle men may accomplish other achievements this week . Dexter Park is admittedly the greatest pure-bred cattle market in the world . o
