( Staff Correspondence . ) ¦¦ Edwardsvillei 111 ., July 5 . —The potato crop of the American bottoms , across the river in Illinois , is just beginning to move . in a small way , and about the 15 th the car lot movement will be on in earnest . The most of the potatoes that are now being dug are brought to this market by wagon . ¦ • The crop in the bottoms this year is not at all good . During the month of June it . rained almost every day , and a good many fields in the low lands were badly injured by the water . In a great many instances the potato vines are scalded and those fields will yield practically nothing . On the higher lands , where the water drained off , the prospect is much better , and it is anticipated that fields so situated will make a fair yield . . Growers and shippers es...

BTDM 6 E TO APPLES [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Packer — 6 July 1907

BTDM 6 E TO APPLES SMALL LICE HURTING FRUIT US SOME SECTIONS-IN YORK STATE . < tul ( e Troublesome In Monroe and Wayne Counties—Kills Leaves Then Covers Small Oreen Apples . Rochester , July 5 . —Apprehension has been felt by apple growers in different sections ot Monroe County over the attack being made upon their orchards by the yellow aphis and other insects . The abnormally dry weather which has prevailed during the greater part of the spring and early summer has made it possible for all kinds of parasites to thrive , and considerable damage has been done by the different pests . In several large orchards in this and other nearby sections many apple trees are virtually covered with a living mass of animal life . The under side of the leaves are almost one mass of yellow and blue aphis , which , when examined under microscope , growers say , present the appearance of a swarm of bees . The damage done by the pests is apparent to anyone on entering the orchards . The lea...
