2 THE SEDALIA WEEKLY BAZOO, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1882. FAMOUS EDITORS. Sketches of Leading Newspaper Men by "Oath." Son Francisco Caronicle. It has occurred to me that I have amid nothing about any of the leading editors except Greely. Henry J. Raymond I never had any acquaint ance with after 1 met him in the pen insular carapaigu. He was a medium sized, sallo.v skinned man, with a very vulgar nose, something on the negro order, and ragged black whiskers combedout from his cheeks. He was neat in hb dress aud very particular in his behavior, being suave, disliking to have quarrels, and although he would pass anywhere for a gentleman, a careful person would look at him twice to see whether beneath that plausible and almost engaging manner there Jay a happy fmind at ease with itself. He was one of the most rapid workers on the newspaper press in his time, and wrote a pretty hand and Tery lear copy. He was a reporter not an editor eriginally, and Mc Elrath once told me that the Tribune ...

. . - . 1 : AFTER THE BATTLE. The election is over; the din of the conflict has died away; the slain have been buried, and quiet once more broods over the land. Some, to-day, are elated on account of success; oth ers are gloomy and morose, thinking of their wa defeat, whether as a can didate or a party man. It is an axiom atic truth that in every race some one is bound to be left behind; that in every election some aspirant is sure to lack sufficient votes. It would be a happy thing if every one seeking an office, could so train himself, along with other preparation, that if defeat should overtake him he could still maintain a cool, placid and genial serenity of mind and gracefully yield to the verdict of the pMls. It is quite a step from high expe-tmcy to defeat and to take it without visible signs of being badly hurt in the transition, would prove a man at once calm and submissive. But aside from this, and with a pouring of wine and oil upon bruised hearts of sorely smitten candid...

t HE SEDALIA WEEKLY BAZOO, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5 NIAGARA. A Celebrated Trio Nybom's and Sathertiercr's Dialogue. Wriltea for the Sunday Morning Bazoo. This translation of mine possesses the peculiarity that it lias been the subject of prophecies from several clairvoyants. The prophecy ! remember the most distinctly was pronounced by an American clairvoy ant in Denver City, i the summer of 1874, who although as ignorant of the Swedish language as, until then, of the existence of the three poems recited to me all the lead ing stanzas I, however, did not remember the occurrence at all until the translation was made. Among those prophets, whe have so "kiudly" interested themselves about my more and less important circum stances and actions, including my literary effort, is a Swedish importer in Chicago, whose "seeing" aiso has been directed to this translation. I doubt, however, the truth of the report, thai he should actually have ventured to publish it above his own signature Yet, such ...

THE SEDAUA WEEKLY BAZOO, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1882 L ' NIP AND TUCK. The Election in Benton County Decidedly a Close One. jSpeeul -Correspondence of the Bazoo. Warsaw, Mo., Nov. 8. This being Tuesday night, with a num ber of important precincts as yet unheard from, it is rather a hard matter to tell whether the resuit will be heads or tails for the democrats. If they are beaten, "heads" did it. Some of the Eock and Bye candidates, as well as a few Bourbon ones, are greatly discouraged. Up to this writiug, the democrats have great hopes of electing representative, county and circuit clerks, probate judge, prosecuting attorney and, possibly, col fecter. Dr. Crawtord, republican candi date for representative stands less show of success than any man on his ticket, a large number of republicans voting solidly against him. Although the republicans endorsed Mr. Alldredge in this county for congress, thev are going double-breasted against him, and it is quite evident to the greeu backers t...

Last night a Commercial reporter was Jounging through the corridors of the Gait house, listening to the friend ly chatting the en yineers, a group of veterans seated- around one of the pillars laughing over old stories, drew the man of news toward them. "Did you ever hear how Jim Hammett brought DeFuniak from Nashville to Louisville ?" asked one of the Louisville engineers. ''Well, you all knew Jim, I guess, or know of him. He can make the fastest time on the Louisville & Nashville when he wants to. He has been in a dozen wrecks and got hurt in all of them. I don't believe there is a sound bone in little Jim's body, but the more bump3 and knocks he gets, the faster he wants to run.
