frS X sr THE PALESTINE DAILY HERALD Entered In the Palestine Texas Postofllce as SecondClass Mail Matter Published Every Afternoon Sunday Excepted w M and h v ifciii vS iIi tiXe J HAMILTON JR = T ELEPHONE year the melons were a great suc cess as to numbers and on this output the statistician has based his caculations If a monument were built of the 40000000 melons raised there last year they would make a column 1223 feet high 146 feet at the base In the bot tom layer there would be 24528 melons occupying 214G2 square feet This is averaging the size of the melon as 14 inches long and 9 inches in diameter These 40000000 would weigh in the aggregate the enormous total of 800000000 pounds It would require 30000 cars and 1200 full trains to transport them The trains with pot a foot of space between them would cover a distance of 170 miles It is becoming more manifest every day that not alone Texas but the entire Southwest and es pecially the irrigated part of it is the home of truck gard...
