BANDITS IN CHICAGO. Tbev Hold Up u Electric Car and Rob the Fasseng-era. ' Chicago, Oct. 8. An Evanston elec tric car was stopped last night between Argyle park and Edgewater by five masked men, shortly after 8 o'clock. Two of the robbers covered the motor man and conductor and the other three entered the car with drawn revolvers. There were eighteen pas sengers. The women screamed and those of the men who made a move ment to escape were given an opportu nity to look into the mouth of a cocked revolver. When the passengers were under control one of the robbers quick ly passed down the car, appropriating the valuables of every one present. Within five minutes from the time the car was stopped the hold-up was a thing of the past, the robbers had escaped and the car was speeding on again. 9 UY THOH. fCOPTItlGHT. CHAPTER 1 A certain Maxcb night of this pres ent "waning og" had settled down upon the woods and the park and the parapets of Ambrose Towers. The harsh stable clock struck a quarter to ten. Thereupon a girl in light evening1 attire and wraps came through the en trance hall, opened the front door and the small wrought-iron gate beyond it which led to the terrace, and stepped into the moonlight. Such a person, such a night and such a place were un exceptionable materials for a scene in that poetical drama of two which the world has often beheld; which leads up to a contract that causes a slight sink ing in the poetry, and a perceptible lack of interest in the play. She moved so quietly that the alert birds resting in the great cedar tree never stirred. Flitting across its funer eal shadow over many yards of turf,- as far as to the Grand Walk, whose peb bles shone like the floor-stones of the Apocalyptic city, she paused and looked back at the old brick walls re...

BY THOS. ICOPTBXGBT. CHAPTER n. ComsvED. Eosalys fflanced absently at the beau tiful building, with its Norman apse nd transverse arches of horse-shoe form, and the massive curves and cush ion capitals that supported the tower end; the whole impression left by the ihnrch being- one of singular harmony, ioveliness, and above all, repose which Itruck even her by its great contrast with her experiences just then. Jim and Rosalys moved forward, and thc light shone for a moment, too, upon 'his vellow hair and handsome face. To the woman who loved him it seemed that:-"From the crown of his head even to the sole of his foot there was no blem ish in him." . The curate looked sharply at the four couples; angrily, Bosalys fancied, at her. But it was only because the e...
