Downing says the "proper season for budding is from the first 01 July to the middle of September, the different trees coming into season as follows: Plums, Cherries, Apricots on Plums, Apricots, I Pears, Apples, Quinces, Nectarines, and Peaches. Trees of considerable size will require budding earlier than the young seedling stocks, but the op- eration is always, and only performed when the bark of the stalk or parts sep- arates freely from the wood, and when the buds of the -current, year's growth are somewhat plump, and young wood is growing firm. Young stock in the nursery, if thrifty, are usually planted out in rows in the spring, and budded the same summer or autumn." NOSEGAYS. FALL PLANT1NC}. There is popular prejudice, and it is gaining ground, that the fail riot the time to plant Now this is wrong thero are many things that ean be plant ed ttWe successfully in the fall than in the spring. Let us take strawberries for an instance, and consider them.— Now is the time, say Sept. and August, that strawberries grow the roost they grow very little in spring—they only bear fruit. There arc many who do plant in the fall, and successfully.— From force of habit the practice has become so prevalent that the spring is the time used to fix the garden, and this accomplished, nothing more is done till the next spring— not even abed of spinach is sowed in the fall. My ex perience in planting strawberries in the fall has always been successful, and by following the course I shall lay down, you will have a good strawberry bed next season. As soon as your early vegetables— say onions, lettuce, peas, potatoes, &c, are out of the ground, manure the ground with sdme well...
