The February term of the circuit court for Wythe county began on last Mon? day, with Judge Kobt. 0. Jackson presid? ing. A sewer system is now being put in at Marion, Va. liiat town is supplied witl) splendid water and electric light systems and is the liest paved town of its size in Virginia. The municipal affaire have been well managed, and it promise? to be come a town of considerable importance. The Virginia Iron, Coal and Coke Com? pany announced last Saturday an advance of ten per cent, in the wages of the men employed at the Toms Creek mines, in Wise county. Two thousand men will be benefitted by the adyance, which was voluntary on the part of the company. J. B. Alexander, one of the oldest citizens of Pulaski county, died at his home in Newbern on last Friday, and was buried on Saturday at 1 o'clock p. ...

Hampton Hoge, who had been critically ill with pneumonia at hie home, 1201 Roanoke street, died yester? day at 12:30. Although it was known tbst Colonel Hoge was desperately ill, the neai of his death in a way came as a Bur prise, as, owing to the rally he made dur ing Friday, many were led to believe that he bad passed the crisis of his illness and would recover. The sub ject of good roads has been before the people of Virginia, and of Tazewell county as a part thereof, for many years. Much time, thought and labor have been ex? pended by the friends of good roads with? out any considerable benefit resulting.
