FRIDAY MORNING, MARCH 1, 1850 [Newspaper Article] — Daily Alta California — 1 March 1850

FRIDAY MORNING, MARCH 1, 1850 Tut Squatters at I.'im "v Poist.— lt has l»rrn A matter of common notoriety tJlllt till squatters have wind upon nil available lands in the neighborhood of San Francisco, irrespective of private claims and of government reserves. The presence of these squatters, mostly foreigner*, has excited a good denl of attention. Private property has been granted away and government reserves also ; and unless the property of the United States in protected there is no knowing where this grievance nay end. Trinidad Bay. [Newspaper Article] — Daily Alta California — 1 March 1850

Trinidad Bay. Several expeditions are in contemplation from this city to Trinidad Bay, a region of California interesting alike from its valuable mineral reBources and the plenitude of it.s agricultural and finely timbered lands, a but feeble knowledge of which it* derived from the imperfect explorations made last year. Three vessels have sailed from this port during tin- present year, two of which hare returned. The first that started was unable to find the entrance of the bay, on account of the dense fogs prevailing along the coast. The second expedition met with but indifferent success on their voyage up the coast, and returned about fourteen days since. Two vessels aro ndvertised to leave soon " for Trinidad Hay and tho Gold Mines," which are believed to bo extensive, although perhaps difficult of access from the coast. The Indians of that region are reported troublesome uftd numerous, but it is a country which will undoubtedly well repay I visit. J riuidad Bay II situated about...
