On Christmas evening at the Col- lege the Trades Carnival, given un- der the auspices of the Baptist church, was successfully carried out. For the enjoyable evening we may thank Miss Flanders, in whose hands was placed the management of the entertainment. She said, "I wish you a Merry Christmas," then did all in her power to the fulfill- ment of the wish. *I /A'v'V'., , I ' %Jl H m ém p$lj JEAL PLANTING PLAN THE BRAMB íe Staked Plains of Western if ' Texas. , / [ A forest plantation on the prairies western Texas should be located Primarily with reference to the orchard and residence site with which it is presumably connected. It is believed that continued success in fruit growing in this country can- not be maintained in an orchard un- protected from the prevailing winds. The first thought of every prospective orchardist should be the planting of forest belts on the south and west sides of the orchard site. The accompanying sketch gives the ideal location of forest belts wtth reference to resi- dence and orchard. From this sketch the reader will see that forest belts for windbreaks are considered and also forest blocks. These two classes of plantations should be kept strictly separate in the minds of tree ...

dm CMUMiity. Well, it ha* been sometime «tace I have written to The Brand. I hope the editor and also the readers will excuse my negligence as I have been away from home a great deal -of late Well, Christmas has come and gone and we are about to launch out Upon a new year, and it is to be hoped that it will be a more pros- perous one for our people on the Plains than the previous year. Still we should not complain. Of course in this immediate neighborhood our crops were very short this year, yet we have many things to thank God for and we do thank Him for the many blessings that "He be- stows upon us, for we realize that all great blessings cometh from God." Well, Christmas passed of quietly and pleasantly in this community. We had no Christmas tree at our school house but some of our young people attended the one at Dimmitt and report a nice time. A great many of our older men went wolf hunting Christmas day but had poor success. Our young men, namely, Louis Thibodeaux, C. P. Atkin...
