Tuck In times of anxious strain we are told to "have faith" and all our troubles will magically disappear. That is simply not true. What we must do is learn mm- io cope wnii "them. Jesus had faith but he also knew the meaning of naked terrors. Some of the greatest saints have cried out for "penicillin for despair," yet they also had faith. We know Christ was God and that as God He had supernatural sights ana powers. But aiso Christ was man, and as man He experienced our same hungers and thirsts; He endured temptation that was real; He had human desires; He had experiences of deep anxiety and despair. Thus we know that anxious fears may come even though one does have faith and we should not feel ashamed because of nervous symp- toms generated by these experiences. But we must remember that there is such a thing as "treat- ment for despair." It isn't a pill or a s...
