We've used the phrase "Just say NO" for years to attempt to keep our children off drugs. However. "Just say NO" has applications for adults as well, not just for illegal drugs and alcohol abuse, but lor those who rely on legal drugs for daily life. This is not meant to point fingers or criticize, but consider the following: we have drugs to lower cholesterol and blood pressure; drugs for depression and hyperac- tivity, heart disease and obesity. The list is endless. Yes, many lives have been prolonged with the use of certain drugs. However, I'd like to suggest that there are many health problems today where drugs should be further down the list of treat- ments. rather than the first line ot defense. Yes, doctors prescribe these drugs, but these same doctors are...

' X No magic pills or diet needed for weight loss As temperatures drop and hopes of keeping this year's New Year's resolutions rise. Brad Musser, M.D., offers some professional answers to common inquiries about diet and weight loss. The basics of weight loss, although critically impor- tant, are very often overlooked by many people. Bottom line, weight loss is a 'simple' math problem: Calories consumed - Calories expended = Change in weight. Therefore, it lakes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound of fat. So, to lose one pound per week, you would have to reduce your average daily intake by 500 calories (500 calories x 7 days = 3500 calories = 1 lb). By making that small change, a person could lose about 25 pounds in just six short months. Many of my patients ask w...

One day its gas was a whole six cents a gallon lower than that of another nearby station! Man! Six cents!
