BULLEEN SHIRE MEETING. Nov. 26TH, 1883. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVELYN OBSERVER [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 21 December 1883

BULLEEN SHIRE MEETING. NOV. 26TH, 1883. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVELYN OBSERVER.   Sir—In my report of this meeting I made an   error in connection Mr. Councillor Hutchin- son in connection with the Pound Road clearing and grubbing. No such formal notice was given, and an apology is given by me to him for a misconception on my part. I can quite understand the gentleman feel- ing very warm on this subject, and it is only just that regret should be expressed by me for placing him in such an invidious position. I have on my notes, "Pound bend road grubbing and clearing," without any re- ference to a motion being made, and it was wrong to have mentioned the subject at all in doubt. These remarks also apply to the mention of Councillor Stiggant's name. Writing from what I hear from the ratepayers of Anderson's Creek, who have   heard of their natural indignance at such a report, I can only assure them that never were they so much respected as at the ac...

Mining News. [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 21 December 1883

Mining News. Mr. T. H. Sprague, mining manager of the Queenstown Gold Miinig Com- pany, One Tree Hill, reports :-- "About 30 tons of stone on surface   waiting for carters to convey the ame to Sabelberg's machine at Badger Point, which has been renovated add put into thorough working order to the satis- faction of all concerned. If the carter will only come to the fore in time will begin crushing on Mondary, and con- tinue till finished so as to get it through before the end of the year. The mine looks remarkabliy well, the stone show- ing gold freely, and if only turns out half as well as it looks it will prove a valuable property - the more so that in the future we shall work from the tun- nel level, saving the labour and expense   of raising the stone & c., up the shaft."

Widisitntes of ift. AN ANOLO-AU$TRALIAN TALE. I (as aVAxtuw.) OIIGINAL. The honey moon was resreely over ere Thomas White proved himself to be onle of those sordid-minded men that board their money for the pleasure of looking at and counting it. He seemed, in disposition, a first cousin of the Elwes, and subjectedal his wife to the most cruel penury. What a mot. ley appearance the menlage presented. In some apartments the thickly accumulated duct, long undisturbe , covered bargains bought as auctions. Fen lers and fire-irons resting dangerously near erstly asses of Dretlen and Sevres porcelain. Quantitesof silver lounnted hrolnls and heavy earpet. ing threatened to annlhilate satueltes of Parian marble that, with nmany a valuable specillen of the old msaters, wasted their sweetness on the desert air. Household comforts were wanting, ant not only did Thomas refuseto supply them. but even in. sisted on Llsioe's spending, in the purchase of groceries, Ac., the smltall remnant of money ...
