Co trjr ?EUi'tor, Su,— If the present absurd system, pursued by Mr. (.lark towards Assigned Servants, be perse vered in, the Settlers will in a short time have no control whatever over them ; you have yourself complained; pf the hardships to which settlers are cxinaed in having their servants taken from them when they arc particularly required. . which is attended in many instances, with serious incon venience to the poorer Settlers. The very lenient sentences occnuunally pasted by Mr. Clark only encourages tlie Assigned servant to lepeat his ill conduct. A case (lately occurred, where the man without the sjighust provocation abused his master in the grossest and im&t obscene language, and when the master wat at the trouble of leaving his fann, and bringing'llie case before a Magistrate, the man received th& very lenient punishment of four days in the Cell.
