TREATED LIKE TOFFS. [Newspaper Article] — Mornington Standard — 5 July 1890

TREATED LIKE TOFFS. A small party started on a trip to Sherwood last Saturday to witness the coatcst between the Great Southern und_ Cranbourne Football Clubs, and as it happened Cranbourne was short and asked six of us to play with them, and after a very close a?nd exciting game, we happened to win with 2 goals 8 behinds to 1 goal 10 behinds. It was a good game and played in a friendly spirit. We were afterwards entertained at a splendid dinner, which reflects great credit on the host and hostess Mr. and Mra George Poole, who did all they could to makse everybody enjoy themselves. We must conclude with thanking Cranbourno and the Great Southern team for the way we were treated, and have come to the conclusion that we were treated like "toffs," and hope that we may hare the pleasure of playvig " with h he same~ players. on somne future occasion. Excuse folr taking so much spnae. We remain; yours etc I -- -:T~dGEY . ,.

MORNINGTON. [Newspaper Article] — Mornington Standard — 5 July 1890

MORNINGTO . (Fno C oun ows CORBESPONDET.) The lamentably sudden death of the Hon C. J. Jenner on Friday last, was the cause of very wide felt regret, and expressions of.sorrow were heard on all sides, that one so much respected and holding such a largeinterestin the district should hare been called away s3 suddenly." Thedeceased gentleman was always ready to use his influence for theadvancement of the place, and being a man of such sterling upright ness, and integrity was generally successful in gaining the concessions Ih asked for. What might have been a senous accident to the 8.39 p.m. train to Mornington was narrowly averted owing to the expertness with which the train was pulled up, on Wednesday evening last, at a pointjust beyond the boundary of the Tanti Park Estate there'is an open crossing with pits on either side upon which just at the moment of the train passing a horse musthave been crossing. A consider able shock was felt by the yassengers. andpeople living around heard ...

TO THE EDITOR [Newspaper Article] — Mornington Standard — 5 July 1890

TO THE EDITOR SIR.-Certain of the good people of Flin ders and Shoreham u are ever of an enthusiastic and demonstrative disposition so much so, that many years ago. they obtained for themselves the unenviable character of being barbarians. That this characteristic, had died out, as civilation and the attendat elements of refining in fluence has blended with them, was a " consutnm:ttion devoutly to he wished," but, so far as the incursion of a hand ulitd on the ever peaceful neighborhood of Red Hill on the second instant shows : the most sanguine hoper must admit, that as the d--1 having entered the herd of swine, "there remains," as the Qu.tker sitld, " still some taint in.the Iacon.".
