('lb the Eiitor.) FOUL RIDING AT RACE MEETINGS-. Sir; — According lo the number of horses put into 'training by the vftr ions owners in our district, tho racing fof the coming season promises to be well supported, as well it should be. A day'fl outing to the races was in former day's loonea iorwa.ia io uy almost every Australian as most onjovable, And but 'one thing militates against such being the case at the present tiino, and my de sire to point out this cause is the reason for this letter. If tho stewards of coun try clubs will only act with a firm hand and pirt down foul riding on the part of any jockey who oversteps the* rules strictly laid down by the Australian Jockey Club, it will tend to purify the sport very much indeed, and Cause it to bo again looked upon with favor by people who desire to seo fair play. The New Bridge. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 14 December 1900

Tho Hew Bridge. Considerable discussion lias 'been caused at meetings of the Progress Com mittee recently in connecJiim with this structure, and many of tho members of the committee are greatly cxereised in mine as to whether it is being eroacted as an ornament or whether it to be used in the ordinary manner of all bridges. That this uncertainty is justifiable ccn not be doubted when it is stated that this present contract terminates some 40 feet from the end of the work in 'tho eld structure at present in use, and makes not the slightest provision for crossing the flood opening at the Cowra end. This flood- water channel is in'the instance of the bridge at present in use. provided for by a subordinate bridge of some 30ft but no such bridge, watercourse, nor anything else is shown in the plans of the present structure. From the end of the bridge there is to be two chain of earthwork, with a grade of one in six teen, the earthwork running out to nothing at this point, the plans showi...

CUDAL-CARGO RAILWAY. In anothcT column will be found an article tinder the above heading re printed from the ' Orange Leader ' of Saturday last, which has evidently beeii written with great effort, Iu face of the fact that a member of the Cargo Anti jAauway x.yujjuK uu wiimiay evuiung last voiced their motto as — 'A railway I to Cargo, or no railway at fill,' the J ?writer's disposition uot to enter into the ' points of dispute between Cargo and Cudal as regards the construction of a railway is to bo excused, as wo ta'ire it for granted that lie was well aware or the feelings of the gentlemen of Cargo before the article was penned- The ' points of Dispute,' so far as can be gleaned are to be found in the fact that the Cudal people want a railway aud are working in the right direction to secure what -tlioy desire ; Cargo wants a railway, and so far as the district is concerned is en titled to one, but it is so unfortunately situated as to be some sis or seven miles from the route of ...
