He said that he and the prisoner, :were:drnipking together, and Hurloey kniew that he had done so. .Hurley gave evidence to the effect that the prisoner had taken the hammers, and would not give him the money he got from the pawnshop. Although IHendon has been in trouble before, it is a considerable time since he has been before the Court, and he there fore escaped with the lenient sentence of three days' imprisonment.

AUSTRALIAN NATIVES' ASSO CIATION. TIE ordinary meeting of the North Melbourne Branch was held in tile Lodgeroom, Mechanics' Hall, on Thurs day evening, JulyfIth. The President, Mr. Jas. Pickett, in thle chair. There was only a moderate attendance of mem bers. After the reading and confirm ation of the minutes, seven new members were elected, namely: Messrs. Booth, Tucker, Gray, Gitting, Lambert, Eger ton, and Conabere. Mr. W. A. Bren nan welcomed the new members. Four proposals for memebership were received. The half-yearly balance-sheet and audi tors' report were sutbmitted and adopted; and another £50 was hIanded over for investment to tile trustees.
