THE CIRCLE WIDENING. [Newspaper Article] — The Telegraph, St Kilda, Prahran and South Yarra Guardian — 1 June 1867

S THE CIRCLE WIDENING. That mythical man who' went to bed overt night believing himself to be nobody-a mere unn0tice4 unit in the grean.t mass of humanity and woke in' the morning to find himself fiamous, can readily be conceived as being woqdesfully astonislihed at thie audded and un expected metamorphosis that had occurred in his cireuinstances. His bewilderment must lhave been amusing. How tile news that he was the observed, of all opbservers, as it broke up mn his bewildered senses, must have made him rub his eyed, and ask himsolf whether he had'not been dreamig. Baut great as wase his astonishment, we questioq whether it is net exceeded by that of a very worthy hard-working class existing in our midst. The market-garldeners have been so long at thel mercy of the Melbourne Corporation fobr tle means of disposing of their prodtluce-have had to sunbmit to so much injustice snd, con tamely at tile hands of that purblind body that tley cannot but feel as much astonished as gratifled...

ANOTHER LEGISLATIVE BRAWL. [Newspaper Article] — The Telegraph, St Kilda, Prahran and South Yarra Guardian — 8 June 1867

ANOTHER LEGISLATIVE BRAW'I. Our legislative week consists of only three :ilghts; and yet it seems impossible for one to pass away without cnrrying with it the record of a brawl in tile House of Assembly tnhat is alike discreditable-to our M.L.A.'s as nen and as legislators, nnd dJamant ing tu lemocratic institutions, .It would almost :eem as though those wl,om the people have elected to manage thei naffaiis have combined together to show how little fitted they. are for the honour that has been conferred upon them, or else that they are anxious to bring. discreditulpon the institutibns through wllch, politically, they live, move, nnd have their being. Whatdver may be the cause of the demoralised condition into which the As sembly has admittedly sunk, the effect is to creati disgust in the minds of all decent people. A feeling is abroad that it has become bad beyond redemption, and that, apart from political consideration, it ought to be'dissolved. As the House is at present composed-...
