I Ji 'colonial produce maize has taken a considerable advance ahl ia very scarce— in fact, cannot be had in any Quantitv A pared was sold last week at 4s 31 per bushel, and 4s Gd'iS exp'*ted.. Some arrivals of potatos Coastwise have tended to \reakon'the markets, and f 7 per ton is now all that is asked. Breadstuff's remain as hefore^-if anything, with a downward tendency. Stocks o'f Adelaide wheat are held at 6s 3d per bushul ; colonial. Ss 6d to 4s 6d. Flour, £12 to £16 per ton ; bran, 'is ]-er bushel. Cape barley, 2s 9d to Ss per; bushel j. Wb take the .following from the San Francisco Bulletin of the 18th December; — About two month's since a man named Thomas Stevens came to this city from Panama, and rep resented that he was one of the prinoipal Btook owners in the Panama and New Zealand 'Royal Mail Steamship line and the agent of the company for the establishment ofanother line to this city. He seemed desirous oi ootaining a pornon oi tuo vi\-y ituui mr docks, 'lips, and wharfs and he was apparently quite active in the service of his principals. He lived in style, at one of the first-cloBS hotels and entertained new made and admiring friends sumptuously. At last Mr. Stevens wishing to use some ready money, gavea draft on George Sealey, the agent of the abovenamed company at Panama, and obtained from J. 0.
