CRICKET WOOLBROKERS' TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. A party, representing the majority of the WoolbroKing ilrnio ot Sydney, visited the Western Districts (headquarters, Tranjjie), and engaged the local graziers in the1 national pastime. The Sydney combination consisted of W. E. Cosgrove, F. Hennccpy and W-. Stoeliham (C.P.S.), T. Coles and 1). Brown (Co-op. Wool), C. Hearne, H. Dat son & J. Alt (Dalgety), V. Coulter & P. Ferguson (N.Z. Loan), 1''. Merchant (A.M.L. and F.), 11. KIrkwood (P., S. and B.),- J. T. Popu (Farmers &. Grailers') manager and captain. The Metropolitan Team found the condi tions in the country rather trying. Hard grounds, the glare of the san, providing a great contrast to the velvet-like grounds, and the turfed areas of Sydney. Probably when a similar visit is undertaken in the future, a less strenuous time will be mapped out. Railway Notes Helping the Fruit Growers [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

[?] ? — (By the Publicity Officer.) Helping the Fruit Growers During tlie last 12 months the Bail: way Commissioners have given very substantial encouragement to the fruit industry in New South Wales. They first of all established what is a merely nominal chargo for the conveyance of single cases oi fruit from any one point to any other point in the State—the rates being Is per half-bushel case, or 2s per bushel case for all distances ex cept where the ordinary rate for ' the short distance would bo even less than these amounts. The Eat rate is not charged when the ordinary rate would be^ cheaper be cause of tho short distance the fruit haa to be cirried. The primary object of this very substantial concession on single cases of fruit was to assist fruit growers who desired to do a trade direct with the consumer to get into touch with the latter, and the Commission ers have received! many indications that it has served this purpose to a very considerable extent. Then, some time later...
