COMMERCIAL AND MARKETS. {From the Herald and Empire.) Friday Evening. I The amount of gold coin issued by tho Sydney branch of the Royal Mint during the week ended to-day, May 8th, has been 20,000 half-sovereigns. Tho amount .of gold-dust imported into the same establishment, for the purposes of coinage, during the week has been 1*117 ounces. Of this quantity, 29 ozs. were received from tho Rooky River diggings. The gold duty received was, therefore, £t6'2 =103 'Jd. The Western Escort arrived this morning, and de livered at the Sydney branch of tho Royal Mint tho fol lowing quantities of gold-dust. — From Stoney Greek, 30 ozs. 4 dwts. 21 grs. ; Sofala, 400 ozs. 11 grs. ; Taiu baroora, 210 ozs. 12 dwts.; Louisa Creek, 010 ozs. 3 dwts. 12 grs. Total, 1523 ozs. 20 grs. The amount of gold-dust receivod through the General Post Office for tho month of April was Gil ozs. MAITLAOT) QUARTER SESSIONS. This court vas opened on Monday lnnt. before the Chairman, Thomas Cnllaghm, Ksq.. assisted by Major Crutnmer, P.M., and F. H. Smith, Ksq. The barristers presuiit wero J. S. Dowling, Esq., Crown Prosecutor, W. B. Dalley, Ksq., and W. C. Windcycr. INDCCKNT ASSAULT. On calling the names of the jurors, about 12 were absent, and a large proportion of those on tbe panel were fothjd to hare left the district. ! Joseph Williams was indicted for that he did, at New castle, on the 7th of April, 1857, commit an indecent assault on Sarah Ann Colling, a girl of eleven years of j age. Mr Dalley appeared for the defence. Attorney, I Mr. Ward. ' Thomas Colling deposed that he resided on Dr. Brookes' farm, about 7 miles from Newcastle.
