Thursday, March 1.. -o - --- - In the Legislative Assembly on Thursday In answer to fMr. MaeBain, Mr. M'Culloch admitted that the Englih mail service had been irregularly performed, but.it was not to be forgotten that two or three companies had been formed to carry the mails,and ha'l failed. He thought the SPeninsular and Oriental'Company should be I kept up to the mark, as they were the mo$ capable of performing the service. By every mail of late he had been urging on the Col. ouial Secretary to use his influence with the c company to have the service more regularly performed. MISCELLANEOUS EXTRACTS. A fatal ac?ident occurred at Heale:rville on Monday the 26th ult. The Wood's Point Tine states :---"Riehard Allerey, a gardener, was, in comIpany with his son Robert, aged 15 years, fissing in the terra, when the fa ther left his son sitting under a dead tree, Swhil he went a little further along the river. Shortly after he heard the crash of a falling branch, but took no notice of it at the time, and soon after called out to his son to learn if he had got any bites. Not obtaining a reply, he repeatcd his questiou, and then returned to where he had left his s on. lie then found that the branch which he had heard fIll had struck the lad on the hed and fractured his skull, apparently killing him instantaneously. Au inquest was [held on the body the following morning by the distmet coroner, when the jury returned a verdict of accidental death." They found a great stone with brains still on it, which had, no doubt, been the instrument used for beating the heads of the victims. The graves where the bodies i-ere buried by Mr. Sten hous, were also close at hand. On the morning of the 4th, the party took up the tra ks, and at the first camp of blacks found a sockaaa ncard; at the next camp a card was also found, aud from that to the 5th camp cards and fragments of clothing, which were indubitable indications cf their being on the rirht track.
