Latest Betting. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 19 May 1880

Latest Betting. MARATHON and Beadsman appear to be the favorites for the Aramac J. C. Handicap, and we hear of 16 to 6 being taken about the former, and 4 to 1 agnt the latter. For the Maiden Plate at Blackall, Sailor Boy is the favorite at present, but as we believe there will be several starters for this event, It is not likely that shorter odds than 8 to 1 will be offered. The following doubles have been taken for the Barcoo and Blackall Handicaps at lOO.to 6: Marathon and Beadsman Cullodcn and Beadsman Theodore and The Bard Beadsman and Beadsman IfAIDEN PLATE. 20 to 6 agst The Bard, t and o 25 to 6 agst Mnritana, t 15 to 6 ngat Sailor Boy, t and o 20 to 6 agafc Portrait, o 26 to 5 agst Modesty, o 20 to 5 agst Wcnslcy, o 26 to 6 agst Drumstick, o

COUNTRY NEWS. EROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ISISFOUD, May 4. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 19 May 1880

COUNTRY NEWS. FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ISISFORD, May 4. HAVING had a three week's stay in Stoney   Point on purpose to see what trade was done there, I thought it time to shift quarters. When I was in Blackall and Isisford no other place would go down as the El Dorado of the West but Stoney Point. Well, so it may be some time or another, but I don't think it will be this century. During my three weeks stay in Stoney Point I don't believe there was more than one hundred pounds changed hands in the whole town, and this to be divided between two pubs., two stores, one saddler, and one cordial manufactory. This simply means insolvency to some of them. I have heard it stated that Quin and Co. are going to close their Stoney Point stores ; this state of things don't say much for the future El Dorado of the West. Leaving Stoney Point I went further west, and visited Tolpin, Witula, and Merryvale. At each of those stations rain fell very heavily, especially at the last-named...
