The announcement recently made that the question of drainage is being considered by the Municipal. Council cannot be received butwith satisfaction. Of equal importance with, and almost allied to, water supply, this matter could not long have remained in abeyance and it is to -~the -Oouncil's i credit that it is taking action before instead of after the necessity for so doing had become mani fested, possibly by the presence of miasmat ic disease. .Bourke has now reached such dimensions that it is necessary for the wel fare of its residents that some more complete drainage system than that now prevailing should be carried out, and this necessity will be largely increased as the Water Supply comes into more general use, as it » doing daily.
