TRIBUTE TO WOMEN . [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 March 1907

TRIBUTE TO WOMEN . It takes a hundred men to make an encampment , but one woman can make a home . I not only admire woman as the most beautiful object ever created , but I reverence her as the redeemed glory of humanity , the sanctuary of all virtues , the pledge of all perfect qualities of heart and head . It is because women are so much better than men that their faults are considered greater . The one thing in this world that is constant , the onl y peak that rises above all the clouds , the one window in which the light burns forever , the one star that , darkness cannot quench , is woman s love . It rises to the greatest heights , it sinks to the lowest depths , it forgives the most cruel injuries . A woman s love is the perfume of the heart . This is the real love that subdues the earth ; the love that has wrought all miracles of art ; that gives us music all the way from the cradle song to the grand closing symphony that bears the soul away on wings of fire . A love that is g...

FIRST STEPS IN AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION . [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 March 1907

FIRST STEPS IN AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION . The first step towards teacliing agriculture in the public schools should be made by county , township and district boards of education co-operating and securing the services of experienced instructors in the various special lines of farming , each to visit every school at regular intervals and give a talk on his specialty with a view to first arousing the children s interest and afterwards instructing them as to soils and methods of cultivation . They should been couraged to carry on the work in a small way , on the home farm , and report results at the end of the season . Home economics should be taught the girls in the same way . This is the only practicable way in which such subjects can be taught in rural schools , conducted as they are at- present , the teachers in which , as elsewhere pointed out , have already more class work than can be properly done daily . And why should not one session of each farmers institute , or at least one ...

M JSM ^ WWMP ^ d ^^^ m ^ £ M ^ W m ^^ ^< 3 ^ ° * By Caroline D D . Camp 7 3 y Caroline , Camp At eight o clock one May morning , Laurence Harding stood on the piazza of Miss Lowthers suburban boarding house , reviling Fate and his tailor . The one had sent premature hot weather tin ; other had not sent his new suit . He was a vigorous clean-cut fellow , but ho dreaded the trying day in winter raiment . Moreover a girl was to meet him at the afternoon train to take him for a drive . But even as he brooded over his wrongs there came in sight , moving with the repose of a Verc de Vere , the tailors boy , bearing the suit promised for the week before . Laurence looked at his watch . Temptation assailed him and he fell . The trolley car for his train was almost due , but with celerity—up to his room he dashed and with desperate speed the change was effected , not forgetting the transfer of important papers needed for his early appointment in town . Then came tlie clanging of t...

Our ° afomev ) liih t Hu G / Wr . < * T e-oPferifcens EARLY MARRIAGES . A sweet young girl of only nineteen writes of her engagement to a young man who is but lit tie Tier senior , not yet twentyone , and says that though he is one of whom her parents cannot but approve , a member of the same church as herself , industrious , thrifty , honest and upright , her mother wishes the marriage postponed because they are too young , and because all men are alike , and she dreads to see her daughter repeating her own experience , which , the daughter writes , has been a baby every year or two since her marriage . And , under the circumstances , it is hard to advise . The mother has her daughters best interests at heart , and should be her best counsellor . But —though I was once greatly opposed to early marriages I have known from observation that very many marriages made when both parties were young have resulted veiy happily . And , as a dear woman who has had some heart-rend-in...
