Gortner this forenoon tendered his resignation as dis trict attorney for the counties of Santa Fe and Taos and Assist ant Attorney General of the Territory to Governor George Curry. The resignation was re ceived by the Governor. It is understood that it will not be ac cepted; at least not at this time Nathan Jaffa, the new secre tary, is one of the business pion eers and most successful men in the Pecos valley. Born in Hese Cassel, Germany, in lsíó, he voyaged to the United States thirty-five years ago, and in 1S82 came to New Mexico, after being connected with the Jaffa Brothers' mercantile establish ment in Trinidad, Colorado.
