THE BAILY RECORD-UNION. 1 FRIDAY-- ••- :.... OCTOBER S». ISWO. CHINA AND JAPAN. By the steam ship Gaelic, which arrived at San Francisco yesterday,' we have later dates from China and Japan : CHINA. ■ There has been a serious disturbance in Canton, in which (1,000 or 7,000 Chinese •ere lighting for some lours. The French missionaries were threatened, and the whole foreign community were so scared that they armed and put the place in a state of defense, and kept the steamers in the river with steam all night, so that they might decamp if the worst came to the worst. The Viceroy called ont the sol diers and fired into the mob, killing several persons and wounding several others. As to the origin of the disturbance there are conflicting accounts, but it arose somehow out of a jealous misunderstanding between the Hakka stone-dressers and the Can tonese Concerning the putting out of a fire which broke out in the evening near the cathedral. Another fire, believed to be the work of incendi...

The colts were selected and purchased by S. D. Bruce, and were selected not only for their high breeding and royal descent, but for their racing form, which is an important desid eratum in a race-horse. High breeding without proper conformation will never make a race-horse. An animal, no matter how well bred, or how successfully the family has raced, is next to worthless with out proper conformation. THE ISSUES SUMMARIZED. GENERAL GARPIE— D'S Masterly Presentation of the Politic— Situation— The Democratic Record Written in Letters of Living Fire. Mr. Chairman: lt is now time to inquire as to the fitness oi this Democratic party to take control of /our great nation and its vast and important interests for the next ; four years. I put the question to the gentleman from Mississippi [Mb. Lamar] what has the Democratic party done to merit that great trust? : He tried to show in what respects it would not be dangerous. "'-. I ask him to show in what it would be safe. I affirm, and Iljelieve I do not misrep resent the great Democratic party, that in the last sixteen years they have not advanced one great national idea that is not today exploded and as dead as Julius Caesar. And if any. Democrat here will rise and name a great national doctrine bis party has advanced, within that time, that is now alive and believed in, I will yield to hear him. THE l DAILY RECORD-UNION. SAN FRANCISCO MARKET REVIEW. [BSPORTID F^'R TH* bACRAMKNTO RKCORD-U.V105.] Sax Francisco, October 2S, ISSO. There is little change to , note in the trade of the week: There is a good feeling and fair activity. The arrival of several deep water vessels has made a little flurry in ocean freights for grain. . The asking rate is 7u"7_.-tU for orders U. K. .The receipts of wheat for the week passed have been heavy. Up to date the receipts here have not equaled those of last year, owing to the late" harvest and increased storage facilities elsewhere. Flour is in limited re quest, not : only for China, but for other foreign ports. . Bailey continues to languish, with free of ferings. Corn is lifeless. Oats move off sluggishly, j Beans seem to be quite a drug upon the market, Mustard Seed is called for to go East, Hoiw are wanted for Wisconsin. Wool is in fair request, but at low prices. Hides are unchanged. Dairy pro ducts are in free sup^y^coniiuanding good price...
