l^tfroUtttet f^tttwwt CUI/TIVATIOM O EG O PLANT. This is an African plant, and like the tomato, of which it is a relative, has had to rise in public esti»oation by its own merits. It requires an edfacn- ted taste, but onee acquired, it lasts as long as life. It has a peculiar taste which is very much li liked by some persons at first, but who after eating it a few times, become very fond of it. When nicely Wed in batter, it ot the consistency of marrow. It is exceedingly susceptible to the effects of frost, and consequently should not be set out into the open air until all danger of the frost is over, and the ground becomes thoroughly warm.— Plant in a hot bed at the same time as tomato, pepper and early cabbage, and transplant two or three times as for to- matoes, the last time giving each plant six inches square of space. By this means, you will have plants in tull blos- som by the first of June, which is early enough to transplant into the opon air in this climate set oat with th...

I O O W S A S O S Many of oar readers have doubtless suffered during the hot, dry weather of June and July for the want of that luxury as well as necessity of civilised lift—iee. W find in an exchange the following simple mode of constructing an ice-house reoeommended by a corres pondent, and we commend it to all who can conveniently follow his example, before another winter sets in. •ays: I will give you a plan of my ice house, from which any one can build who can use a saw and hammer. It has been built ten years, and is all sound yet, with the exception of the boards on the inside, which will want to be replaced once in about five or sixvite years the size is eight by ten outside, six feet high. I took two-inch plank, twelve iuches wide, for sills and plates, halved' together at the corners. 1 used Studs on the iuside, and boarded up and down outside. The cracks should be covered with battens, to prevent the air striking the ice the rafters should...
