FARM AND HOME. BH HI JITS. It, may afford a crumb of comfort to American agriculturists who are dread ing the results of overproduction, to know that Euglish writers like Mr. Caird have forcibly summedjup the broad view of the present state of matters, when tbey tell us that quite one-half of each Joat consumed in England is of loreign origin ; that one-fourth part of their whole meat and dairy produce comes to them from across the sea, and that al most the entire additions which may hereafter be sought to fill the ever-multiplying mouths of their dense popula tion must be drawn from other lands. A " handy thing' to have in the house is a j r or bottle 01 lime-water. Pour water over unslacked lime (the quantity is - important, as only a certain amount will be slacked), and cork np for use. A spoonful of clear liquid stirred iaio milk, cream or bread sponge in dan ger of souring, will prevent that catas trophe. It also cleanses bottles, etc., that have an unpleasant odor. FARM AM llOJir- Chicken cholera proceeds simply from indigeHtion, and this is caused by bad food, over fatigue and unrest, brought about by the presence of vermin in great quantities on the tniy.
