Miles square and contains 6972 Square Miles, an area Five and One-Third times greater than the State of Rhode Island, Three and One-Fourth times greater than Delaware, and One and One-Half times greater than the State of Connecticut. It is situated on the continental divide between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mex ico; the highest altitude along the Southern Pacific Railroad from San Francisco to New Orleans, being at Dragoon Summit, an-.altitude of 4,614 feet the average altitude being 3800 feet above sea level.
