Short Route to California, When the Rock Island completes the construction of a connecting line between Tucumcari, N. M., and Amarillo, Texas, a distance of 1 10 miles, the company will have the shortest line between the sea board and southern California by 404. miles. What effect this new route will have upon transconti nental business remains to be seen, but it is understood the company proposes pushing its claims. FIGHT OVER A CONTEST Lewis B, Robertson Shot and Moiv tally wounded Wylcy Edwards In a Dispute Over a Contest Last Monday Evening. From the most authentic in formation obtainable by the News the details were as follows: The difficulty occurred about twenty-five miles southeast of Tu- cumcari, and the dispute arose over a claim upon which Robert son was living and had made ap plication in Nov. 1906 to file upon as his second homestead entry, but the Commissioner of the Gen eral Land office had requested ad ditional evidence of him as to his right to make this second home stead entry, lnis notice never reached Robertson and the land was declared open for entry.
