Washington, Feb. 9.Minister Daw ban han cabled the state department from San Domingo that the new pro tocol providing for the responsibility ol Sun Domingo finances by the United States was signed Tuesday. The doc ument is expected here early next week and will be submitted immedi ately to the senate. It is diawn on the lines of the orig inal protocol so far as concerns the administration of the customs by offi cials designated by the United States and the segregation of a portion of the customs uoceipts to detrav the foreign indebtedness of the country. Very Probable That His Decision Not to Be a Candidate Will Be Overcome. In spite of the fact that Mayor J. A. Ludington has declined to be a candidate for another term, it can be stated with comparative safety that the entire council will again submit their names to the voters on March 14 next. It has been persistently rumor ed that this was the case, but un til this afternoon no direct in formation could be elicited from an authoritative source. How ever, a talk with a member of the council this afternoon resulted in proving that the rumor was well founded and that every member of the council is willing to make another run providing Mayor Ludiiagton's consent to allow his name to appaar at the head of lsts were obtained. Bena, Feb. 11The govern ment Indian school here is com paratively well attended this win ter, and the advance being made by the scholars of this-institu tion is very encouraging. There are now 61 pupils in attendance at the school, and the officials in chirge have the promise of quite a few more before the wintrr ends. The buildings used by the school are located directly north of the G. N. depot, about a half mile, on the banks of Lake Win nibigoshish, overlooking the most beautiful part of the lake. Henry L. Warren is^ the principal of the school, as well as being the sub agent of the Indian department at this point. Mr. Warren is a graduate of the government school at Carlisle, and is regard ed as one of the most efficient teachers in the service in the northwestern states.
